Weekly Reflection: Week 1
Week 1 Reflection:
Overall, this week was a success and a lot of fun. I learned a lot about the kids and the parents around Proctor as well as more about the community that makes it up. I had the pleasure of getting to know quite a few of the kids around campus. I was also lucky to interview some parents as well. For starters, I learned about what it takes to have to keep kids entertained for long periods of time. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to have to give children constant attention. If I thought four or five hours a day was hard for me, I can’t imagine 24/7. It really makes me envy the parents. I thought it was super interesting how almost every parent that I interviewed mentioned how much they appreciate the sense of community here and how it has helped them grow and thrive through the help of other people. Not only did I learn about the raising of kids and how to balance work and time management, I also got to experience it. I had to make sure that the kids I was watching were entertained and happy, and sometimes I could be a lot of work. Overall, however, I loved every minute of it. I honestly really enjoyed this project and I’m glad that I did it and am doing it for another week. I think as for my original goals that I created, I definitely think that I was on track with it, as I was babysitting as well as interviewing parents. I think I shifted it a bit, as originally I wanted to see stay at home parents, which now it has just shifted to the parents raising kids around campus. I honestly thought this project was going how it was going to be expected, except I definitely think I am doing more babysitting. This is something that has definitely been beneficial because it is hours, as well as lots of fun. I think I have benefited from this week a lot from the babysitting hours wise, as well as learning the wisdom from the parents who have been raising their kids on and around campus. Luckily, I didn’t run into many problems this week and I was able to complete my work and get lots done in advance. I think that I definitely achieved my goals this week, and I am happy with my progress.
So wonderful!!! <3
